Walk 7 – Llanmelin Hill Fort

Sunday, 13th September 2020

Thirteen walkers turned-up at the Coach and Horses in Caerwent for the latest walk, this time to the Silurian Hill Fort at Llanmelin. Walking past Caerwent’s roman ruins before crossing the A48 and heading towards Llanfair Discoed, turning off to the hidden valley of the Cwm. Noticing a Queen Victoria post box, some beautiful houses before the steep climb up towards Shirenewton, turning into the woods and eventually finding the hill fort.

Not much to see especially at this time of year, very overgrown but the outlines could be clearly made out. The return journey was via the same route, with a number of walkers enjoying a drink and Sunday lunch at the Coach and Horses.
