About the Choir Cycle Club

From an idea by baritone Tony Griffiths, a group of  27 cyclists including choristers of Caldicot Male Voice Choir with Friends and Supporters rode the 55 mile Taff Trail from Brecon Canal Basin, past Talybont reservoir in wet and windy conditions  to Ponsticill and Cefn Coed Viaduct. They  followed the river Taff beyond Merthyr Tydfil and Pontypridd and finally arrived in late afternoon sunshine at the Millenium Centre, Cardiff Bay.

The cyclists then made their way back by bus to Caldicot Choir Hall to a rousing reception by its supporters and a follow-up barbecue and disco.

This event led to the formation of Côr Meibion Caldicot Cycle Club as part of the social side of Caldicot Male Voice Choir.  Its aims are to promote social cycling to encourage a healthier lifestyle for its members and in so doing help raise awareness and lend support for deserving, local charities.

Such was the success of the day, and the enthusiasm of the participants, future charity rides where planned for July 2013, looking to support a charity that is close to the hearts of the choir, ‘Victims of Chernobyl Children’s Trust’.

Everybody is welcome to join-in, whether you are a choir member or not – all you need is a bike and a sense of humour.

  1. Hello

I have recently taken over the Tearoom at the Dean Heritage Centre Soudley, I previously ran the Old Station Tearoom in Tintern for 10 years. We built ourselves a good reputation with cycling groups with our home baked cakes, bacon rolls and freshly ground coffee.

I would like to offer a special discount to cycling groups who pre book their visit to the Camp Mill Tearoom of:

Bacon Roll & Hot Drink £4
    Cake & Hot Drink £3

The Tearoom is open 7 days a week 9.30 – 4 during the winter 9.30 – 5 during the summer. We are only closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. We are open 11-4 New Years Day. So if you are planning a ride over the the Christmas break and you would like somewhere warm and dry to stop off at, please bare us in mind.

If you would like to arrange a group visit please email me: carriagescatering@hotmil.com or ring: 07584121201

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Many thanks

  2. Hi,

I was looking to join a cycling club on a weekend but unsure of what is needed because I have a mountain bike. Would this be ok to join your club. What would I need to bring to join and what would I need to bring each ride?

I look forward to your reply

    1. Hi Yvette, for the ride on the 9th April, a mountain bike would be fine. It is only 7 miles so should not be too taxing. We usually stop for coffee, this time we are going to the David Broomes Event Centre. You will need a helmet, and we usually collect £1 a ride that goes into the club coffers. Look forward to meeting you on the 9th, 11am at the Choir Hall. Tony

    1. Hi Gary, you are more than welcome to ride with us. You can check out our rides here on our website, or via Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/573726156059025/ or at GoSkyRide https://www.goskyride.com/Participant/Index. We are affiliated to Welsh Cycling and British Cycling. We run varied rides, from 5 mile Starter Rides; 15-35 mile Social Rides; and longer rides up to 50-60 miles. Mostly road in the Spring/Summer, and Hybrid/Gravel/MTB rides in the winter months. We also partake in Charity events. Hope you can join us soon.

  3. Hi be grateful if you can advise. I heard about your cycle club after a kind lady member of your club helped me with directions back to Chepstow after I was slightly lost in the Severn beach area. I am from mid wales originally but currently live in Cambridge but work in north Bristol Monday to Friday and stay on Chepstow during the week. I would be very interested in your Wednesday evening rides. Br grateful if you can advise. Thank you

    1. Hi
I expect that was Janet who helped you, she lives in Chepstow and regularly rides across the Severn Bridge. You are very welcome to join us at any time. Our next scheduled Wednesday evening ride is to the Tredegar Arms in Shirenewton. We meet at the Choir Hall in Caldicot, we will be leaving there at 6:15pm next Wednesday, ride to Shirenewton, have some food and a drink and ride back to Caldicot, total distance about 15 miles. The ride will be at a social pace. Let me know if you are interested and I can give you directions. Also, the website will give you further information and we are also on Facebook – Côr Meibion Caldicot Cycle Club
      Regards

  4. Afternoon, do you have a regular ride each week as I will be spending more time in the Undy area in the future? Thank you
