268 – Wye Valley Wander

Sunday, 15th July 2018

Distance: 27 miles – Difficulty: 4/5 – Weather: Hot

Tough ride today, lots of steep climbs, very hot but very picturesque. Route saw us leave the Choir Hall and head for Mount Ballan before ascending the Shirenewton drag. Dropping down by the Huntsman before the steep climb to Itton and Devauden. Loveliest part of the ride is the winding descent to the Cot, passing the trout lakes before entering Tintern. Onwards to Brockweir for photos at the quay, stopping off at the Old Railway Station for cake and refreshments before the long climb back to St Arvans. Return to Caldicot was via Chepstow and Mathern. Good day out, with great company.
