Trans-Canada Challenge

 

Virtual ride from the west coast of Canada to the east – Vancouver to St. Johns, a distance of 4,825 miles. This is the full challenge, although there are selected destinations along the way depending on people’s personal goals. The cost of the challenge is £15, which will be donated to the Severn View Open Doors project in Chepstow, who care for local Dementia sufferers. Recorded cycle rides, runs and walks will be counted but they must be backed-up with a GPS app, eg Strava. Only outdoor rides, runs and walks will be counted – no turbo trainer or treadmill exercise sessions.

  1. A very busy week; Ironman, club rides, runs etc., has seen the competitors hit more goals. Brian Stephens has reached Montreal and passed 3,100 miles; Christine Smith has also knocked off 3,100 miles; Chris Potter has reached Thunder Bay; Andrew Alford has passed 1,800 miles; Gareth Davies has reached Brandon, passed 1,400 miles and climbed more than 70,000 feet; Sue Earnshaw has clocked 1,300 miles; Robert Stallard 1,200, and Helen Garrett has passed the 1,000 miles barrier; Janet Vale and Tony Griffiths have reached Swift Current; and Carolyn Griffiths has reached Calgary. Well done to all the others as well.

  2. Latest update on the weekend’s activities. Brian Stephens has now taken the lead and has climbed more than 90,000 feet; Christine Smith has now achieved 80,000 feet; Steve Chappelle has cleared 1,400 miles; Janet Vale has passed 900 miles; and Carolyn Griffiths has passed 600 miles. Well done to everybody else who was active over the last couple of days.

  3. Midweek catch-up – lots of miles put in by Brian Stephens has narrowed the gap to the leader Christine Smith to just 9 miles. Brian has now passed through Kingston and has reached the capital, Ottawa. Christine has also swooped through Ottawa as well, and is heading for Montreal. Andrew Alford has now passed 1,700 miles, and Steve Chappelle 1,400 miles and 40,000 feet of climbing. Also out pounding the roads were; Chris Potter, Diane Potter, Gareth Davies, Sue Earnshaw, Robert Stallard, Tony and Carolyn Griffiths, and a catch-up for some miles done by Tony and Sharon Ward on their recent holiday.

  4. Such a busy weekend, lots of ‘athletes’ involved in the big events, Tenby Long Course and the Velothon. Leader Christine Smith has now surpassed 3,000 miles; Brian Stephens has 2,800 miles in the bank; Chris Potter 1,800 miles; his wife Diane, 1,600 miles and 70,000 feet climbed; Lesley Russell has reached Swift Current, 1,000 miles and 50,000 feet; Tony Griffiths has passed 900 miles; Tracey Eastabrook has reached Medicine Hat, 800 miles and 30,000 feet; and Ian Russell has reached Banff, 500 miles and 30,000 feet. Congrats to everybody and those that are not mentioned.

Another busy week on the roads,lanes and mountains of South Wales.Top efforts from, Christine Smith who has reached Kingston and passed 2,900 miles; Brian Stephens on reaching Toronto; Chris Potter on 1,700 miles; Andrew Alford 1,600 miles; Sue Earnshaw and Robert Stallard getting to Regina, and passing 1,100; Tracey Eastabrook arriving in Brooks; David Whittle climbing more than 40,000 feet; and Carolyn Griffiths reaching Banff. Well done everybody else who was out.

  6. Another busy weekend, star performer must be Steve Chappelle with his amazing 100km (67 miles) walk from Bath to Cheltenham on the Charity Cotswold Walk. Steve’s efforts have seen him reach Winnipeg and pass 1,300 miles; Brian Stephens has now passed 2,700 miles; Gareth Davies has climbed 60,000 feet; Helen Garrett has reached Swift Current and climbed 50,000 feet; Tracey Eastabrook has topped 700 miles. Also out were Christine Smith, Chris and Diane Potter, Sue Earnshaw, Ian and Lesley Russell and Tony and Carolyn Griffiths.

Some midweek action to report on; Christine Smith has now passed 2,800 miles; Brian Stephens has climbed more than 80,000 feet; Diane Potter has reached Winnipeg; Steve Chappelle has cleared 30,000 feet; David Whittle has reached Calgary. Another busy weekend, 1/2 Iron Man, Tumble climbs, club rides, walks and runs has seen; Christine Smith reach Toronto; Brian Stephens passing 2,600 miles; Helen Garrett clocking up 900 miles; Lesley Russell and Tony Griffiths reaching Medicine Hat and 800 miles; Carolyn Griffiths passing 500 miles and Ian Russell 400 miles. Well done to everybody else who was out as well.
