Nice walk, lovely company for the Magor loop over St Brides, Carrow Hill and Rockfield. Stopping off for a visit to the ancient St Brigid Church in St Brides, with its thirteen century ‘Ave Maria’ bell.

Walk 9 – Piercefield Mansion

Sunday, 11th October 2020

Big turnout for this morning’s walk to Piercefield Mansion, starting from the Millers Arms in Mathern. The route saw the group head for the pretty hamlet of Mounton, before the uphill climb towards Chepstow hospital. Down through the Danes picking up the leafy trail to the impressive largely ruined, neo-classical Piercefield house. Onto the Wye Valley trail, following the route back towards Chepstow. Through the town, following the woods path through Garden City to Bulwark, heading down Mathern Road back to the starting point at the pub. An enjoyable day was completed with Sunday lunch, washed down with cider and beer.

Choir Runners – (Not) Cardiff Half Marathon

Sunday, 4th October 2020

Eight runners, three choristers and five friends virtually ran or walked the Half Marathon distance (13.1 miles) around the local roads and trails to raise money for the Choir’s chosen charity, Welsh Air Ambulance. With donations from choristers and friends, the total raised was in excess of £500. Great effort everyone.

Walk 8 – Welsh Coastal Path 1

Sunday, 27th September 2020

Fabulous walk on a beautiful sunny Autumn day from the start of the Coastal Path at Chepstow to Sudbrook, via Garden City, Bulwark, Mathern, St Pierre and Black Rock. The distance was 8.5 miles for the six walkers, passing interesting sights at the Portwall, site of Bulwark Iron Age Fort, Thornwell Farm, Mathern Palace and Church and the historic slipways at Black Rock and Sudbrook.

The walk was finished off with coffee and cake at the Non-Pol Cafe in Sudbrook.

Charity Golf Day

Saturday, 19th September 2020

Forty players turned-up for the Welsh Air Ambulance Charity Golf Day at Llanwern Golf Club, on a pleasant early Autumn day. Teams from the choir, the Nomads Golf Society and friends from the former Dewstow Golf Club and one of the pubs in Caldicot, made it a memorable day, raising about £400 for the charity.
