Thirteen walkers and two dogs made the start of the walk at Friars Walk steps on a fine late Winter morning. The walk took us along the High Street up up Stow Hill to the St. Woolos Cathedral perched high over the city (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport_Cathedral).
Continuing down hill through Belle Vue Park, a large Victorian parkland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belle_Vue_Park), and through Pillgwenlly to the Transporter Bridge at the River Usk (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport_Transporter_Bridge). Following the river back towards the city centre, with a crossing over the footbridge and returning via Newport Bridge opposite the site of where the remains of a Portuguese galleon (Newport Ship) was found (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport_medieval_ship).
The day concluded with food in the revamped Newport Market with its plethora of eating place including Greek, Italian, Thai etc.
