Great ride today, beautiful countryside. From Caldicot through Caerwent and then the dreaded Shirenewton drag. Dropping down to Bully Hole Bottom before the steep climb up to Itton and then onto Devauden. Lovely ride through the Angiddy valley to Tintern and then on to Brockweir. Stop for a bite to eat and a coffee at the cafe in the centre of the village before the long climb back to St. Arvans, Chepstow and home – 30 miles approx with 3,000 feet of climbing – tough. Nice to meet Diane’s husband Chris, another new member to the club. Hope he enjoyed it.

Distance – 30 miles

Probably the best weather we have had for all the Night Rides so far, and no major issue this time. The usual ‘Three Musketeers’ made the bumpy ride down the dark, gravel track from Caldicot to Undy before following the lanes down to the Rose Inn in Redwick. A roaring logged fire welcomed the riders, along with fellow members Chris Nolan and Kirstie Benjamin who had decided to take the car down. Following pints of Reverend James and hot food, it was a return to the dark lanes back to Caldicot.

Nine riders made the trip to the Seawall Cafe on Remembrance Sunday, with a visit to Magor Square to pay our respects at the Cenotaph service.

After all the rain we have been having lately, we were lucky to have a fine morning to leave the Choir Hall and head for Caerwent. The route took us through St. Brides, Llanwern Steelworks to Broad Common taking the scenic Chapel Road to Goldcliff and the cafe. The return journey took us through Redwick, Undy and Rogiet before arriving back in Caldicot.

It was nice to welcome back Tony and Sharon Ward after their holidays, and great to see young Declan Ward joining us.

Well it rained, then it stopped but we went anyway. Six riders made the trip up to Shirenewton via Pwllmeyric only to be greeted on the way to Earlswood with an almighty rainstorm. At this point with the roads running with water, we decided to abandon the rest of the ride and head home to dry off.

  1. Kirstie Benjamin

Well it rained, it was muddy but still three intrepid cyclist braved the wet, dark Autumn evening for the trip to the Rose Inn. They were rewarding by nice food and drink in the cosy lounge area joined by fellow members Chris Nolan and Kirstie Benjamin who weren’t able to get back in time to join the ride.

The return journey was eventful with thrown chains and broken lights making the dark lanes a little treacherous – all adds to the fun though.

Great ride over to Littleton-upon-Severn on the day that the Severn Bridge roared to the sound of Harley Davidson’s et al. Ten riders (including 2 new members) left the Choir Hall and headed up the climb to Shirenewton before dropping down into the valley at Mounton.

From there it was up to Chepstow and the link road down to the Old Severn Bridge. It was not only the bikes that were roaring, the wind was ferocious during the crossing of the bridge and it was nice to get into the relative calm of the beer garden at the White Hart in Littleton.

The return journey back over the bridge and through Mathern to Caldicot was no less easy, battling against the elements.  At least it did not rain.

With Leon and Nick taking on the Verderers Trail, the rest of us tried out the Family Trail which was very good, plenty of uphill and downhill tracks with great scenery.
