Great day at Wernddu for the latest round of golf with the Birdie Boys, despite the heavy rain showers. The winning team was Karl Gregory, Leon Jones, Paul Thomas and Peter Fagan, with Karl also winning the nearest the pin and the raffle.

Choir Riders – Llanfaches Loop

Sunday, 1st August 2021

Six riders made the start at the Choir Hall for the ride to a couple of local villages, Llanfair Discoed and Llanfaches before heading down St Brides Road to Magor. Despite a heavy rain shower, a good time was had by everyone, stopping in Magor Square for coffee and cake outside the Italian Cafe. The return journey was then made back to Caldicot.

Choir Runners – Cornfield 5K Trot

Seven runners turned up at the Cornfield for the latest 5K trot around the track. Nice to see John and Jane Nesbitt back after injury. Six figure of 8 laps of the track on a cooler evening was more comfortable than the searing heat we have been facing for the last couple of weeks.

Choir Walkers – Gray Hill

Sunday, 25th July 2021

A great walk the starting from the Rock & Fountain pub, up past Penhow Quarry and onto Wentwood Forest, stopping at the Glades Cafe for coffee and cake. Onwards up the steep climb to the top of Gray Hill, with wonderful views over the Caldicot Levels and the estuary. Following the gentle but stony path down around the edge of the hill back to Llanfair Discoed, then Llanfaches before returning to the pub for a refreshing drink of cider.

Because of the extreme heat, we decided to do a 2.5 mile walk rather than run. So a sheltered walk in the shade of the old railway track took us to Caldicot Castle and then returning back to the Cornfield.

Choir Riders – 325 Seawall Tearooms

Sunday, 18th July 2021

Scorching hot day saw three riders make the start at the Choir Hall. The route through Caldicot and Caerwent, onto Carrow Hill and Magor. Taking the narrow track to Llandevenny and to the Tearooms at Goldcliff. Very busy at the cafe, with riders from various cycle clubs, so a toasted teacake and a cup of tea before making the return journey through Redwick and Undy back to Caldicot.
