Trans-Canada Challenge

 

Virtual ride from the west coast of Canada to the east – Vancouver to St. Johns, a distance of 4,825 miles. This is the full challenge, although there are selected destinations along the way depending on people’s personal goals. The cost of the challenge is £15, which will be donated to the Severn View Open Doors project in Chepstow, who care for local Dementia sufferers. Recorded cycle rides, runs and walks will be counted but they must be backed-up with a GPS app, eg Strava. Only outdoor rides, runs and walks will be counted – no turbo trainer or treadmill exercise sessions.

  1. Plenty of trans-canadians got out, mostly on Saturday before the rains came on Sunday. Brian Stephens maintains his lead from Christine Smith, both putting miles in over the weekend;Rob Stallard is in 4th position with Diane Potter conquering 200 miles, just ahead of hubby Chris; Also out were Carolyn and Tony Griffiths, Lloyd Jones passing 100 miles, Lesley Russell, Helen Gilmore, Janet Vale and fit again Tracey Eastabrook.

  2. End of week update, 11 out, Brian Stephens, Christine Smith, Steve Chappelle, Rob Stallard, Diane Potter, Tony Griffiths, Carolyn Griffiths, Sue Earnshaw, Lesley Russell, Lloyd Jones and Helen Gilmore. Sure to be plenty more action over the weekend, weather permitting.

  3. The start of the week has seen a lot of action, leader Brian Stephens has passed the 400 mile barrier; Steve Chappelle 300 miles; and Chris Potter has now climbed more than 10,000 feet. Also out were, Christine Smith, Robert Stallard, Diane Potter, Sue Earnshaw, Helen Gilmore and Ian Russell. The ‘Red’ team still hold the lead from the ‘Blue’ team.

  4. Busy end of week, with 14 runners and riders out; Brian Stephens maintained his lead, with Christine Smith catching up by passing the 300 mile mark; Steve Chappelle maintains his third place; Rob Stallard has now passed 200 miles; Steve Tobin, David Vass and Lesley Russell have knocked up over 100. Also out were Diane and Chris Potter. Carolyn and Tony Griffiths, Sue Earnshaw, Grahame Morton and Ian Russell. Just noticed a walk by David Whittle that will be included in the next update.

  5. Midweek update has seen plenty of runs, walks and rides for the likes of Christine Smith, Rob Stallard, Diane Potter, Tony Griffiths, Chris Potter, Sue Earnshaw, Steve Tobin, David Vass, Lloyd Jones, Ian Russell and Carolyn Griffiths who has passed the 100 mile mark.

  6. A busy day on the roads of Monmouthshire. Twelve participants out with Christine Smith just keeping second position from the hard-charging Steve Chappelle who has now reached Kamloops, British Columbia; Also out were Tony Griffiths and Chris Potter breaking the 100 mile barrier; also Rob Stallard, Sue Earnshaw, David Vass, Gateh Davies, Lloyd Jones, Lesley and Ian Russell and Grahame Morton.

  7. The first part of the weekend has seen 9 different activities taking part, cycles, runs and walks that have moved the ‘trans-canadians’ on in their journey. Highlights include Christine Smith reaching the city of Kamloops and is now on the 2nd stage; Steve Chappelle has passed 200 miles; Tony Ward, Chris Potter and Sue Earnshaw have topped 100 miles; and there were also efforts from Diane Potter, Tony and Carolyn Griffiths, Rob Stallard, Steve Tobin, Lloyd Jones and Lesley and Ian Russell who got his journey started. Wonder what Sunday will bring?

  8. Catch-up of the midweek rides and runs. Brian Stephens still out front and has now passed 300 miles; Christine Smith has taken 2nd place and is just 11 miles outside of Kamloops and having passed the 200 mile barrier. There were also rides and runs for Robert Stallard, Diane Potter, Sue Earnshaw, Tony and Carolyn Griffiths, Chris Potter, David Vass, Lloyd Jones and David Whittle has now got off the mark. Well done everybody.

  9. More miles in the bank for seven of the trans-canadians. Brian Stephens maintained his lead and has now climbed more than 10,000 feet; Steve Chappelle stays second with a ride and a run and has passed 200 miles; Christine Smith also had two events; as did Chris and Diane Potter, Diane has now passed the 100 mile barrier; Steve Tobin has moved himself up the ladder with another ride. The ‘Blue’ team still hold the lead but are coming under pressure from the ‘Red’ team.

  10. A big weekend of events, the CMCCC Club Ride saw 10 riders put at least another 30 miles on to their total. Brian Stephens went a bit further, and his lead has now extended and has completed the 1st stage of the challenge, reaching the city of Kamloops; Steve Chappelle has moved back into second place, and Christine Smith also improved her mileage. Rob Stallard has now passed the 100 mile mark, and there where also rides by Sue Earnshaw, Tony and Carolyn Griffiths, Tony Ward, Janet Vale, Lloyd Jones, Grahame Morton, and David Vass and Steve Tobin got themselves off the mark. That is now 19 of the 22 entrants who have started the challenge. The ‘Blue’ team still hold the ‘yellow’ jersey as best team.
