Trans-Canada Challenge

Virtual ride from the west coast of Canada to the east – Vancouver to St. Johns, a distance of 4,825 miles. This is the full challenge, although there are selected destinations along the way depending on people’s personal goals. The cost of the challenge is £15, which will be donated to the Severn View Open Doors project in Chepstow, who care for local Dementia sufferers. Recorded cycle rides, runs and walks will be counted but they must be backed-up with a GPS app, eg Strava. Only outdoor rides, runs and walks will be counted – no turbo trainer or treadmill exercise sessions.

  1. A fine Winter’s day saw lots of trans-canadian ‘athletes’ out, pounding the streets or spinning their legs. Leader Brian Stephens extended his lead, with a ride over the Severn Bridge which now takes him past 200 miles; Christine Smith has now moved into second place with a ride to Redwick; Rob Stallard, Sue Earnshaw, Grahame Morton, Tony and Carolyn Griffiths circum-navigated the Redwick loop on foot; Diane and Chris Potter took their running shoes up the Monmouthshire Canal; and also out riding their bikes were Lesley Russell to Raglan and Tony Ward to Severn Beach. That is 17 competitors having left Vancouver and heading east. The ‘Blue’ team still have the lead.
