RIDE CANCELLED

Sunday, 30th September 2018

Distance from Caldicot: 45 miles, from Chepstow: 36 miles – Difficulty: 3/5 – Weather: Dry

Only three riders made the start at the Choir Hall, and were joined by another two at the M48 Approach Road in Chepstow. Passing lots of cyclists, and a group of Nordic Road-Skiing group along the quiet lanes to Berkeley, before stopping at the Tearooms for refreshments. Nice to bump into an old workmate, Paul Elder and also Gary Price and a mate from Chepstow Male Voice Choir there also. Soon it was back on the bikes for the long ride back to Caldicot.

Sunday, 16th September 2018

Distance: 29 miles – Difficulty: 2/5 – Weather: Showery

On a blustery day, four riders made the start at the Choir Hall to cycle down to Goldcliff and the Seawall Tearooms. The rain kept off on the outward journey, but after refreshments of cake, teacakes and coffee at the cafe, the heavens opened and showers accompanied us on the return trip to Caldicot.

  2. Carolyn Griffiths
  3. Chris Orum

Tuesday, 11th September 2018

Distance: 20 miles – Difficulty: 1/5 – Weather: Fine with light drizzle on return

Four riders made the start at the Choir Hall, including first-timer Darren Lloyd. The route took us through Caerwent, Carrow Hill, St Brides and into Magor, initially stopping at the Golden Lion but when it became apparent that they were not serving food, we switched to the Wheatsheaf which was excellent. We were also joined for dinner by Darren’s wife, Bev Lloyd and Sue Earnshaw who had driven there to meet us.

Sunday, 15th July 2018

Distance: 27 miles – Difficulty: 4/5 – Weather: Hot

Tough ride today, lots of steep climbs, very hot but very picturesque. Route saw us leave the Choir Hall and head for Mount Ballan before ascending the Shirenewton drag. Dropping down by the Huntsman before the steep climb to Itton and Devauden. Loveliest part of the ride is the winding descent to the Cot, passing the trout lakes before entering Tintern. Onwards to Brockweir for photos at the quay, stopping off at the Old Railway Station for cake and refreshments before the long climb back to St Arvans. Return to Caldicot was via Chepstow and Mathern. Good day out, with great company.
